Hercus Still Top Scorer For Eagles

Retired American rugby star, Mike Hercus, still remains the USA Eagles top scorer. He holds that position by a considerable margin over the next several players. Hercus is not only the all-time leading scorer for the Eagles, but currently sits at 20th on the all-time international scoring list. Eagles USA Rugby Team Competes In Last Churchill Cup

USA Rugby continues to build on its reputation, earning a bigger following in its home country and around the world by competing in top international tournaments such as the Rugby World Cup and the Churchill Cup.

The Churchill Cup was an invitational tournament that lasted from 2003 to 2011. The U.S., Canada and England were all permanent fixtures in the tournament, with top teams from other countries invited to vie for the top prize. The final event included teams from Italy, Russia and Tonga. The last Churchill Cup was held in several cities around England.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . America hosted or co-hosted the event a total of four times.

USA Rugby enjoyed a strong result in the final Churchill Cup, scoring the Men’s Bowl, essentially finishing in fifth place. The Eagles were able to defeat Russia to secure the trophy, the second such time the U.S. has bought home hardware from the event. America’s best showing occurred in the Cup’s first year, when the Eagles lost to England in the final. England has dominated the event since its inception, winning the tourney title six times.

After the 2011 tournament, the International Rugby Board decided to start including the U.S. and Canada in its international test schedule, thereby eliminating the need for the tournament.
